Cardiovascular System
What You’ll Learn
The heart is a muscular, four-chambered organ located in the middle of the chest, slightly to the left. It is divided into right and left sides, with the right side receiving deoxygenated blood from the body and pumping it to the lungs, while the left side receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body. The heart walls consist of three layers - the epicardium, myocardium, and endocardium - and contain valves that ensure one-way blood flow between the atria and ventricles. The heart is connected to major blood vessels like the aorta, pulmonary arteries and veins, superior and inferior vena cava, which allow it to circulate blood throughout the body
